If you are not enrolled in the Google 2-Step Verification of your BC Google account there are two reasons to enroll now:
- The holiday season is notorious for scams; enrolling in Google 2-Step provides extra security, and helps safeguard you from phishing scams and ransomware.
- Failure to enroll by January 30 will result in temporary loss of access to your BC Google account.

Starting January 30, 2022, you must be enrolled in Google 2-Step Verification to access BC Google services (Mail, Drive, etc.). This additional protection aligns with best practices in account security and is a new compliance requirement for BC’s cyber insurance coverage.
Once you’ve enabled Google 2-Step, when you access your BC Google account (Gmail, Drive, Calendar) from a new device, it will require both your login information and a secondary verification (ex. code texted to your phone).

QUICK TIPS:
- You can use the Gmail app on your mobile device. Even if you prefer to use a different email app on a daily basis, adding the Gmail app will simplify 2-step verification. Details at bc.edu/google2step.
- When enrolling in 2-Step, follow Google’s recommendation to set up a backup method for verification.
- You can also configure the Duo Mobile app as an Authenticator app for Google (you may already be using Duo Mobile for services like Eagle VPN, PeopleSoft).
